In my opinion, as a non-player, the trailer for Final Fantasy 14’s Patch 6.2, Buried Memory, is indistinguishable from any other patch trailer that I have seen in the past. Aside from the enormous boss monsters, there are also several types of void, an incongruous cat creature, and maybe Death, to mention a few… However, the difference here is that there are also a few glimpses of the Island Sanctuary, which is FFXIV’s new solo farming mode.
Here is a preview of what to expect from the recently announced release date on August 23rd: you can watch it below.
Final Fantasy 14’s Island Sanctuary update
The Island Sanctuary can be found in-game for the first time during yesterday’s Letter From The Producer livestream, so if it’s farming you’re looking for, producer Naoki Yoshida showed it off for the first time. In the archive, you can find it starting around 2h 15m into the program.our another nes blog here.
You can enjoy a relaxing, solo experience on your own island sanctuary, where you can gather resources, grow crops, construct various facilities, and raise animals. As far as the work goes, it appears that you have a crew of minions who can carry out some of the work for you, but you’ll still have to plant and water the crops yourself.
There is no prior crafting or gathering experience required to play it, but to my eyes it does not seem likely to convert anyone who isn’t already playing Final Fantasy XIV to it. Due to the popularity of the MMO, there is no need for it to do so.
There are a lot of new features coming in patch 6.2, not just the Island Sanctuary. In addition to that, there will also be new story quests, a new 8-player raid, updates to PvP, a new dungeon and much more. You can find out more about all the changes at the 6.2 site, but the Island Sanctuary is the one that stands out the most.
